Webflow, Framer or custom code: how we choose

The platform decides how fast you launch, how much you spend and how easily your team can make changes later. Here is the simple test we use.

Most studios build every project on the platform they know best. We think that is backwards. The platform should fit the product, not the other way round.

Start with who will edit the site

If your marketing team will publish pages every week, a visual tool like Webflow or Framer saves you a developer every time. If the site is mostly an app behind a login, custom code gives you the control you need.

Then look at what has to happen behind the scenes

Payments, user accounts, complex search and integrations with your other tools all push toward custom code or a specialist platform like Shopify. A brochure site with a blog almost never needs it.

Our quick test

  • Marketing site, edited often: Webflow or Framer
  • Online store: Shopify, or Webflow for small catalogues
  • Web app or SaaS: Next.js, React and a proper back end
  • Testing an idea fast: Framer

We explain the trade-offs before we start, so the choice is yours and you know why.
